Cheapest Deadbolt From Home Depot USA & Canada | Mr. Locksmith™

Introduction and Lock Purchase
I went to the big box hardware store in the US. This is about 12. In Canada, this was about 15. Canadian, 12. US, about the same price. This is the least expensive lock you can buy from the big box hardware store. So I got one from the US, one from Canada. Let’s do a comparison. Now, what’s interesting is, right off the bat one, this was, this one says three PIC resistant pins. So, there should be mushroom pins. Let’s see what happens. This one doesn’t have anything about this. I think this one’s got a little bit of Spanish. This one’s got a little bit of French. So, this is for, for the Canadian market, for the U. S. market.

Initial Comparison of US and Canadian Locks
Let’s do a comparison. Now, what’s interesting is, right off the bat one, this was, this one says three PIC resistant pins. So, there should be mushroom pins. Let’s see what happens. This one doesn’t have anything about this. I think this one’s got a little bit of Spanish. This one’s got a little bit of French. So, this is for, for the Canadian market, for the U. S. market.

Unboxing and Physical Comparison
S. So, Let’s strip her apart. Canadian version. Very slight difference in packaging. Instructions, similar. So different numbers to call for service. Now let’s do a compare, ooh, bit of a, okay. Canadian one is lighter. It’s made out of a cheaper metal. Slightly, slightly, slightly better. I wish I had a weight. It just seems to be less expensive. Now different cylinder housing.

Disassembling and Internal Comparison
So let’s take these apart and let’s see what we have. Little C clip off. So use my HPC follower set, cause it’s hollow. I don’t want to pull this, I can take that off, but why bother. I’ll just use this, leave it on there. Let’s see what we have for pins. Pretty basic stuff. What I’m going to do is, let’s pull out the top pins. So, the American Mushroom. Regular driver, mushroom, regular, and a mushroom. Tell you the honest truth, it really doesn’t take that much longer to pick a defiant with mushroom pins. They’re just not, have the tolerances. They’re quite sloppy inside. So the plugs look exactly the same. Pin’s slightly different. That’s not going to make any difference. Let’s see what the Canadian version has. Mushroom. Oops, driver. Mushroom. That one’s a driver. And last but not least. So, they have the same. They both have three mushrooms. Three mushrooms, two regular drivers. Again, this does not stop anybody who’s got a reasonable amount of practice picking locks.
