“Locksmiths Don’t Buy Cheap Hardware Store Drill Bits!” and it discusses the importance of using high-quality drill bits in locksmithing. The speaker explains that sometimes locks need to be drilled when they malfunction and cannot be picked. They share their experiences with different drill bit brands and recommend sticking with North American or European-made bits for better quality.

Don’t risk it with cheap drill bits! When it comes to locksmithing, high-quality hardware is crucial. Discover why professional locksmiths rely on top-notch drill bits for the toughest locks.

When it comes to dealing with malfunctioning locks, sometimes there is no other option but to drill them. Picking a lock becomes impossible if it is malfunctioning, and that’s where drilling comes in. However, using just any drill bit won’t cut it, especially if you’re a professional locksmith dealing with commercial locks.

The DeWalt and Milwaukee drill kits may look impressive with their nice cases and affordable prices. They claim to be made with carbide or titanium, but the truth is, they are more suitable for residential use. These drill kits are not designed to withstand the demands of commercial locksmithing. Sure, they may work fine for occasional use in residential settings, but they won’t hold up well for heavy-duty work.

So what should you do? Well, let me share with you my recommendations based on my experience as a locksmith.

First, let’s talk about the drill bit sizes that are most commonly used. For drilling locks, I find that eighth-inch drill bits, three-sixteenths-inch drill bits, and quarter-inch drill bits are the most frequently used sizes. When it comes to drilling shear lines or even bolts, the three-sixteenths-inch drill bits are particularly effective. In fact, I have a bunch of videos on my membership channel demonstrating how to drill shear lines and remove locks in case of malfunctions. Sometimes, picking just isn’t an option, and as locksmiths, we have to do what it takes to get the job done efficiently and effectively.

So where can you find these high-quality drill bits? You won’t have much luck finding them at the big box hardware stores. While they may have nice little kits, the drill bits they carry are not suitable for industrial or commercial use. Instead, I recommend visiting industrial suppliers that cater to businesses like plumbers, carpenters, and welder shops. These suppliers understand the importance of quality and durability and will provide you with reliable drill bits that can handle the demands of locksmithing. When buying drill bits, always ask where they are manufactured. If the supplier doesn’t know or it’s not specified on the package, it’s best to steer clear of them.

In conclusion, locksmiths should avoid buying cheap hardware store drill bits. These drill bits may seem attractive with their low prices, but they won’t last or perform well in commercial locksmithing settings. Instead, invest in high-quality drill bits from trusted brands and manufacturers. Look for drill bits that are made in North America, Europe, or Japan for the best performance and durability. Remember, quality drill bits are not only essential for getting the job done efficiently, but they also contribute to your success as a locksmith.
