Lock-drilling is a last-resort approach to gaining entry to locks that cannot be opened by other means. Drilling a lock will destroy the locking plug but should leave the mechanism in working order.

However drilling the Deadbolt Mounting Screws saves the lock cylinder, in most cases but destroys the lock.

Sometimes picking the lock is not an option, tailpiece has fallen off and other malfucntions.

Drilling the two (2) Deadbolt Mounting Screws is a very quick way to remove the lock and retract the Latch.

I prefer to use a 3/16″ Jobber drill bit. Some locksmith like to use 1/8″ drill bit and some 1/4″ drill bit.

If the drill binds while drilling, you may need to put the drill in reverse and pull it out of the lock to draw out excess metal filings created by drilling through metal.
