Backset is measured from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of the door. Most backsets are commonly measured at either 2 3/8″ and 2 3/4″. A few older locks have a 5″ backset but not too common.

These are the common backsets for North American Deadbolts and locks on Residential Doors and Commercial Doors. Storefront Aluminum Doors have different backsets and locks.

Backset: A backset is the distance from the center of the cross bore, to the edge of the door. To determine the correct backset measurement for your door, you need to measure the distance from the edge of the door to the center of your cross bore.
