Hi I am Terry and this is Ask Mr. Locksmith?  I get asked all the time what is least expensive having for car keys what’s least expensive the car dealership or the locksmith and more specifically the automotive locksmith. Car dealers sometimes they are more competitive depends upon your make model and year of your car. Sometimes the car dealership is less expensive and but most cases the locksmith is the car locksmith the automotive locksmith is least expensive.

But you also have to look at even if they are comparable in the price if you want a key duplicated or by the dealership you have to take your car there book it there leave it there. 

With the locksmith, we just drive up to the car is most cars we have to program the car.  When you need a key to your car the mobile locksmith will come to you duplicate the key or have the proximity and program it all on site at home or your workplace. The convenience of the locksmith is way better. Also, if you have all your keys are lost which we call “AKL” all keys lost, if you have lost all the keys to your car, most cars will have to be towed to the dealership and then they make the keys.  The automotive locksmith is very very competitive when it comes to you have lost all your keys. We come out to you we make the keys on site and program it.

You do not have to tow it to the dealer and wait for the dealers. One important point, if you have specifically a Ford that’s over 10 years old the car dealerships do not keep the codes for those car. It is extremely expensive for a 10-year plus older Ford for the dealership to make a key. When it comes to Fords the the locksmith is way way less expensive.  I hope this answers your question what is less expensive the car dealer or the automotive locksmith.
